Echolocation is the use of sound and echoes to sense the surrounding environment.
Animals that use echolocation emit sound waves, which then bounce off objects close to them. The animal then uses the direction of the returning echo and the time it takes to make it back to work out the location of the object, be it a physical barrier, prey item or another individual.
