Trophy hunting is the hunting of wild game for sport. Animals are not eaten and a part of them is kept as a trophy. It is a controversial topic, with it often being justified as being beneficial to the conservation of the hunted animals. However, putting aside the little ethical justification there is on spending $50,000 to kill a lion, the costs clearly outweigh the benefits. Trophy hunters selectively kill the biggest and best males from a population, which has negative effects on the entire future population. Moreover, there is often little evidence that the profit from hunting is benefiting local communities and conservation efforts. Born Free USA promotes the eradication of trophy hunting and calls the US government to take a stand and ban permits and the imports of trophies, but it needs your support – Take Action Now!
